A lakefront community with small town charm and unparalleled beauty.
The Village of Glencoe is a lakefront community with small town charm and intimacy. Shopping, art galleries, restaurants and specialty shops fill the quaint downtown. The sandy beaches, historic homes and tree-lined bike and walking paths give Glencoe an unparalleled beauty that residents and visitors alike enjoy year round.

The village also boasts Revival, Tudor, Georgian, Victorian Gothic, Italianate and contemporary architecture by such notables as David Adler, Howard Van Doren Shaw, Charles S. Frost, William H. Furst, Robert Seyfarth and others. The Village of Glencoe has been home to poets, statesmen, skating champions, generals and captains of industry.
Award-Winning Educational Opportunities
Glencoe School District 35 is housed in three age-centered facilities: South School (K-2), West School (3-4), and Central School (5-8). Age-centered schools afford the best use of facilities, materials, and faculty, all of which can be focused on the particular needs of an age group. The atmosphere established in the buildings, support services provided and programmatic opportunities relate to the specific age spans. Award-winning New Trier Township High School delivers an academic program comprehensive in scope and providing the rigor of critical thought. Each department creats dynamic, relevant and challenging curricular offerings for students.
A bit of history...
Devoted to the collecting, protecting and preserving of documents, maps, items and artifacts pertaining to the Village of Glencoe, its residents and formal and informal institutions, the Glencoe Historical Society was founded in 1937. The museum contains both permanent and thematic exhibits. Collections are managed by the society's Research Center.

"Glencoe's first non-native family, Anson and Lisa Taylor built a log cabin, had their household goods transported along the lakeshore by ox-drawn scow. Paying $189.94 for 160 acres of former Indian land, Taylor was granted title in 1839. President Van Buren signed the deed. The following year, Taylor moved the dwelling a bit closer to the road and added a two-story frame structure that became known as LaPier House, location of the first post office in the vicinity, as well as a store. Nothing, if not enterprising, Taylor soon expanded his use of the building to include a hostel, which catered to travelers on the post road going west." Read more...
