The perfect mix of historic and fashionable, Libertyville is home to shops, salons and restaurants, as well as beautiful parks and historic architecture. The village is centrally located in Lake County in Northeastern Illinois, approximately 37 miles from Chicago. Founded in the early 1830's and incorporated in 1882 with a population of 500, Libertyville has grown into a beautiful community with a current population over 20,000. An ongoing effort to restore and preserve historic Libertyville contributes to the traditional home town atmosphere in the village.

Conveniently located in north suburban Chicago, only 37 miles north of Chicago and 20 miles south of the Wisconsin border. Libertyville is easily accessible from Interstate 94 exits at IL Rt 60 (Townline Rd), IL Rt 176 (Rockland Rd), or IL Rt 137 (Buckley Rd).

The Village is an established residential community and has traditionally served as a major market and service center for central Lake County. The Ansel B. Cook House and David Adler Cultural Center are two important sites of history and culture located within the village. Residents and visitors also enjoy great shopping, dining, professional services and corporate environments.

Libertyville has a station on Metra's North Central Service, which provides weekday rail service between Antioch, Illinois and Chicago (at Union Station). It also has two stations along Metra's Milwaukee District/North Line which provides service between Fox Lake and Union Station, one of which shares a driveway with the station for the North Central Service.

Stroll through Libertyville's Heritage Area past turn-of-the-century buildings and experience a picture-perfect downtown. The Village of Libertyville provides over 400 acres of active and passive recreation areas for its residents. The Chapel of Libertyville and Gardeners of Central Lake County have partnered with the Village of Libertyville to create Libertyville Gardens, a community garden open to all residents in the region.

Shopping opportunities are not limited to downtown, you will find over two dozen shopping centers and numerous retail and service providers along Milwaukee Avenue (Rte. 21), Peterson/Buckley Rd. (Rte. 137), and Route 176, including clothes, salons, jewelry, spas, restaurants, electronics and more.

Libertyville residents are highly educated, as made evident by a high school graduation rate greater than 96% and the fact that over 56% of residents are college graduates.

Some residents in the southern part of the Village attend Vernon Hills District # 73.

High School District District #128 includes Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School.
