Located along I-94 in Lake County and 38 miles from downtown Chicago, the Village of Lincolnshire was incorporated in 1957. The residential character is largely one-half acre lots and larger with most of the residential development located east of the Des Plaines River. West of the river, a growing commercial and corporate office tax base includes Marriott Resort, several restaurants and retail areas and a corporate center which is home to several Fortune 500 companies.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is about one hour to the north of Hawthorn Woods."

Hawthorn Woods is part of the larger Lake Zurich area in Ela Township which also includes the villages of Kildeer, Long Grove and Deer Park. Ela Township is named after George Ela, an early settler who arrived in the area in 1835.
According to a Village of Lincolnshire 1997 Resident Survey, the "Top 10 Resident Favorites" list includes trees/wooded lots, schools, location, small town, residential lot sizes, quiet/peaceful, safety/security, highway access, neighbors and parks.
Fun things to do in Lincolnshire include riding the bike paths, spending the day at Spring Lake Park's beach, shopping the boutiques, visiting Florsheim Nature Preserve, canoeing the Des Plaines from the Rivershire Park canoe launch, and much more.
