The Village of Long Grove is unique among suburban communities - an oasis from suburban sprawl where residents can enjoy a relaxed and rural lifestyle. The village covers about 18 square miles, which translates into many acres of open space. Named for the groves of oak and hickory trees that covered a vast area that now includes the Deer Grove Forest Preserve, the village of Long Grove is a Lake County treasure.
Long Grove may be best known for its Historic Business District which attracts visitors with specialty shops, fine galleries, boutiques and special dining along the cobblestone sidewalks. Sensible planning and carefully styled merchandise have produced a unique retail business community.

Transportation is convenient and easily accessible on Metra rail and major highways including the Edens Expressway (I-94), the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), and the Northwest Tollway (I-90.
Buffalo Grove was one of the fastest growing communities in the Northwest suburbs since its incorporation in 1958 when, on March 27th, the first Village officials were elected. The Village's Comprehensive Plan projects that the Village will ultimately reach 7,202 acres, over 100 times its original size. The Plan also estimates an eventual population of approximately 48,000 residents. At its beginning in 1958, the Village had 164.
As it has throughout its history, the Village will continue to meet the challenges associated with growth through sound management and planning. Unlike many other suburban communities which exhibit the problems and characteristics of rapid urbanization, Buffalo Grove has retained the characteristics which attracted its earliest residents. It remains a community of tree lined streets and well maintained homes, of neighbors and neighborhoods. Buffalo Grove provides both the amenities of a country atmosphere and the convenient access to the cultural, entertainment, and business centers of Chicago. Buffalo Grove was included as one of "Fifty Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family" in a nationally published book by that title.
