CNE - Certified Negotiation Expert
The Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE®) designation by the Real Estate Negotiation Institute (RENI)is earned by real estate professionals after successfully completing formal negotiation training. Agents who receive this certification are in the top 1% of all agents nationally.
With professional negotiation skills, agents are able to help clients obtain better results in the sale or purchase of their home. CNE® agents have a powerful competitive edge because of their ability to 1) communicate effectively to uncover more information, 2) help clients understand their options, 3) work collaboratively with others, and 4) resolve deadlocks. CNE® agents have a thorough understanding of how to negotiate effectively to help achieve their client's goals.
CNS - Certified Negotiation Specialist
A Coldwell Banker Certified Negotiation Specialist (CNS) has the ability to negotiate to help clients achieve their goals and create the win/win. Designees learn 1) When negotiating actually begins and how to position oneself beforehand; 2) The "Four Principles" used by every great negotiator and how they relate to MUCH more than just an inspection issue; 3) How to create and/or gain power in a negotiation and what to do when faced with someone in a more powerful position; 4) A dozen effective strategies and how to counter them.
SFR - Short Sales & Foreclosures Resource
A Realtor who has earned the Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource Certification (SFR) knows how to help sellers maneuver the complexities of short sales as well as help buyers pursue short sale and foreclosure opportunities. As a certified Realtor I am able to direct distressed sellers to finance, tax, and legal professionals; qualify sellers for short sales; develop a short-sale package; negotiate with lenders; tap into buyer demand; limit risk; and protect buyers.
ABR - Accredited Buyer's Representative
The Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR®) designation is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation. This coveted designation is awarded by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council (REBAC), an affiliate of the National Association of REALTORS®, to real estate practitioners who meet the specified educational and practical experience criteria.
GRI - Graduate REALTOR® Institute
Graduate REALTOR® Institute designees have taken at least 90 hours of specialized real estate related courses. Nationally recognized as top performers in the real estate industry, GRIs are dedicated to bringing you the knowledge and guidance you need to make your transaction go smoothly.
e-PRO
e-PRO is a new training program to certify real estate agents and brokers as Internet Professionals. An e-PRO has received extensive training in email communication and marketing practices, internet marketing strategies and practices, and creating and maintaining a Technology Plan of Action. e-PRO is the only certification program of its kind recognized nationwide and endorsed by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (NAR).

Shelley spent 32 years teaching in Lake Forest and Wilmette. It is safe to say she is an expert on the North Shore Schools and fully understands the importance of finding the right school for your children. Not only does she bring this knowledge to her sales, but she also has an extensive background in negotiating and mediation. As the Chief Financial Negotiator for the Lake Forest Teacher Association she became well versed in Win-Win, Interest Based, and Traditional Bargaining. Shelley loves to learn new technology. She is one of the few Realtors on the North shore that uses her iPad for her listing presentations. She also brings it along with her buyers to help them see the area on an interactive map, see all of the listings in the neighborhood they like, and make life easier and more fun! Technology is changing the business and Shelley embraces these changes to help serve you better.

Sellers and Buyers Be Ready
Teaching prepared Shelley for working in real estate in a number of ways. She learned how to effectively communicate with many parties (in this case buyers, sellers, appraisers, attorneys, inspectors, and mortgage brokers), to empathize with heightened emotions, and navigate through even the most challenging negotiation with grace and professionalism. Shelley takes pride in that her schools used to assign her the challenging class rooms. She took each class on like a puzzle and determined how best to accomplish a successful outcome and an excellent year for each student. This requires adaptability and thinking out of the box. She applies these skills to real estate because she has found that no two deals are the same, and each client needs and deserves a creative and specialized approach in order to achieve their desired real estate goals. She takes joy in helping a first-time buyer learn how to take this first leap into real estate. Conversely, she has nurtured success with Seniors heading towards retirement, always listening to concerns and then working tirelessly to achieve results. Shelley can help you purchase any type of home be it vintage, new, or luxury because she brings the right skills to the table and makes the process enjoyable so that every buyer feels well cared for and stress free.

Personal Background on the North Shore
Shelley has spent her entire life enjoying the North Shore. She has lived in Glencoe, Highland Park, Northbrook, Northfield, and Lake Forest. She raised her son here and delights in sharing that he is now a student at the University of Illinois pursuing a PHD in Nuclear and Radiological Plasma Physics. She also loves to dance, enjoys music and the arts, and believe or not, is a bit of a numbers nerd and loves to read financial publications.
