The Lincolnwood Parks Department provides residents with a wide variety of programs, parks and recreational facilities including senior activities, swim lessons, sports, softball leagues, fitness, tennis, special events and concerts in the park. Thirteen park locations offer neighborhood playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, walking and bike paths, fishing and picnicking. One park even has an inline hockey rink. Channel Runne Park offers long paths with numerous sculptures by artists from around the country. The new Family Aquatics Center, located in Proesel Park, offers zero depth pools, two large slides and water play features. Lincolnwood Town Center is the local mall with anchor stores Carson Pirie Scott, Old Navy and Kohl's in addition to more than 90 other popular retailers. A wide selection of dining options, from full-service restaurants to quaint diners to fast food, can be found throughout the village.

Lincolnwood's history dates back to 1844 with the arrival of the Proesel family from Bavaria, and Johann Tess who joined them in 1856. As other Europeans settled in the area, the emerging community first organized itself as Tessville in 1911. In 1936, the Village of Tessville formally became the Village of Lincolnwood. Today, Lincolnwood is an affluent, mature community that is home to over 12,000 culturally diverse residents.

Winnetka District 36 schools have a long tradition of progressive education and parental and community involvement. Ten years before the Village was incorporated in 1869, families in the town made private donations to finance the first public school. Today, children in District 36 attend one of three elementary schools (Crow Island, Greeley, and Hubbard Woods); a fifth/sixth grade center (The Skokie School); and a seventh/eighth grade middle school (Carleton Washburne School).

Award-winning New Trier Township High School delivers an academic program comprehensive in scope and providing the rigor of critical thought. Each department creates dynamic, relevant and challenging curricular offerings for students.
