385 S Beaumont St, Asheville

Swannanoa, NC

Swannanoa is located in eastern Buncombe County between Asheville and Black Mountain. The community is growing, with new residents attracted to the Valley for the natural beauty and affordable housing it provides. Old and new residents are continuing to rebuild the economic base of the community, and explore avenues for growth and rebirth.

The name Swannanoa apparently derived from the anglicizing of the Indian name Shawano or Shawnee, referring to an early Indian tribe in the area, or from a Cherokee word meaning "beautiful river."

Families enjoy the Swannanoa branch of the public library, playgrounds, walks by the river, and fishing at Owen Lake Park. In summer, relax on the green at the town's terrific music series, Groovin' on Grovement.
